Lab Interests:
Our lab studies ion transport processes controlling cellular excitability, utilizing a combination of electrophysiological, biochemical and molecular techniques to study the biophysics, physiology and pharmacology of ion channels and exchangers. Our current projects include; a)Ionic and metabolic events leading to cellular dysfunction in the heart and endocrine pancreas, b) Novel pharmacological targets in islets and enteroendocrine cells, c) Proglucagon peptide physiology and pathophysiology, d) KATP channel function and molecular pharmacology, e) Novel light sensitive pathways in adipocytes, f) Off target effects of the antidiabetic sulfonylurea and SGLT2 inhibitor drugs, g) Use of split ring radio-frequency resonators for non-invasive glucose-sensing.
